With so many choices that is a difficult question. Budget carriers often offer lower prices, however there are many drawbacks to budget carriers. A budget carrier may try to deny claims that would typically be paid without question from A+ rated carrier. Or they may not include as many perks such as roadside assistance or free legal help. One thing to keep in mind that selecting an insurance carrier that you get what you pay for. That cheap policy may sound good but in the long run may end up costing you money.
In San Antonio Texas insurance agents are regulated by the state. The state maintains a list of valid insurers which may be found at the Texas Department of insurance. The state of Texas has implemented a program allows law enforcement officers and certain state employees to immediately verify whether a vehicle is insured or not. This helps eliminate fraudulent or false proof of insurance cards. Many people would often purchase insurance and drop the coverage after receiving insurance cards. This program is called Texas Sure, known as the financial responsibility verification program. The Texas Legislature developed this program due to the abundance of uninsured Texas vehicles. There is an estimated 20% of all Texas vehicles are uninsured at any given time. This number is staggering.
Texas law states that a person may not operate a motor vehicle in this state unless financial responsibility is established for that vehicle. Most people do this by buying automobile liability insurance. The law currently requires minimum liability coverage of $25,000 per injured person, $50,000 for everyone injured in an accident, and $25,000 for property damage (25/50/25). These limits will increase to 30/60/25 on January 1, 2011.
